Historians claims that nation, as we know it nowadays, are quite young forms. Nations exists from about few hundred years and actually we cant be sure about that, they would exist another hundreds years. Are the people identify themselves with nations? How national identity looks today, in the time of globalisation?
The are authorities, which claims that globalization process would haste the extinction of national identity. Their arguments are very strong, especially now, when the European community is growing. Young people could travel to every country, they could study, live and, what is more, work there that is what they are saying. These people thinks that our nation has to fight for national identity, fight with (for instance) EU chairmen .
However, there are also the others. People that are thinking in other way. They claims that globalization can even help us to hold our national identity. Especially young people have now lots of possibilities they can study, work, travel in every EU country . Students could gain experience and knowledge. But they have strong national identity and go back to their nation country.
Summing up there are plenty arguments for one sight and plenty for other. Although , just take sports. For example, popular discipline in Europe soccer. On every national game there are fans with flags and national colours. Every EU citizen feels a EU person , but always at second place. In every survey EU citizens claims that, they firstly feel as a citizen of own country. Another example - cars and motorbikes. Even now, when parts to one machine comes from at least few countries, car as a whole always is known by ONE country. Jaguar (owned by Ford) is British, same as Lamborghini (owned by Volkswagen) always will be Italian.
